Social Democrat interim leader says PSD to present economic recovery measures

Social Democratic Party (PSD) interim Chairman Sorin Grindeanu announced that in the coming period the Social Democrats' own package of economic recovery measures will be presented.

Package 2 of measures is largely complete, having been agreed upon to a great extent for about two or three weeks now, Grindeanu told Digi 24 private television broadcaster, agerpres reports.

'I know that there must also be a package which I would call the ‘PSD package'. If you will, it is a form of conditionality that the PSD has introduced, but in a constructive manner. When we implement adjustments, for example, in the area of magistrates, other sectors that benefit from special pensions will follow. No one will ever convince me, and perhaps I shouldn't be saying this out loud, but I will, that if you work in vehicle registration, in the Police, you should have a special pension. If you are out in the field, if you are in war zones, in dangerous areas, yes, that is different. And that applies across the entire civilised world. But when you're at a desk, I don't believe it's justified... and this matter needs to be clarified. And it will be clarified in the PSD package, if I can call it that. But more importantly, that future package must include a component for economic recovery. (...) And I can tell you that, broadly speaking, our proposals, which I have also shared with the Prime Minister, who accepted this and whom I thank, the PSD's economic recovery package will be finalised by the end of next week. I will present it. (...) Next week,' Grindeanu pointed out.

The interim leader of the Social Democrats mentioned that among the measures included in Package 2 are reducing the number of members on Boards of Directors, pension reform for magistrates, and noted that the milestone on corporate governance has been met.

'We all agree. (...) But I can't allow criteria to again depend on the discretion of one minister. Tomorrow Miruta may no longer be the Economy Minister, and someone from the UDMR might take over. Then what do we do?,' the PSD leader added.

When asked whether the package also includes mergers of institutions, Grindeanu replied: 'Yes, they are foreseen. I don't know if they will be included in this Package 2, but the topic has been discussed. And I confirm that it has indeed been discussed.'
