n Thursday's meeting, the government approved, through an ordinance, the acquisition of vehicles by the National Registry Office for Classified Information (ORNISS) to safely carry out courier activities for classified NATO and EU materials.
According to a government press release, the estimated cost of purchasing the vehicles is 1.5 million lei, which will be covered from ORNISS's budget, within the limits of the funds approved for 2025.
"These acquisitions are necessary because ORNISS currently carries out courier activities for classified NATO and EU materials using two Volkswagen Multivan vehicles purchased in 2015. Each has logged approximately 200,000 km and experienced major malfunctions, which led to failed courier missions involving classified materials. In 2025, it was found that these vehicles can practically no longer be used. To ensure the safe execution of courier operations for classified NATO and EU materials, it is necessary to eliminate any vulnerabilities that could impede these activities under optimal conditions," the press release informs.
