Romania is the main export market for Republic of Moldova wines, with the neighboring country's market share standing at 20%, as almost 70 Moldovan wineries are doing business on the local market, informs Agerpres.
According to Moldova's National Vine and Wine Office (ONVV), over 10 million liters of Moldovan bottled wine were shipped to Romania in 2024.
Against this auspicious background, the most appreciated Moldovan wineries are bringing their 'grape elixirs' - traditional, sparkling and mulled wines - to Bucharest for the fifth edition of the Moldovan Wine Festival taking place September 13 - 14.
The event brings together approximately 50 wineries, which will showcase award-winning beverages in a broad palette to please all tastes. Renowned producers, wine experts and enthusiasts will meet to explore, taste and celebrate the excellence of wines from across the Prut, enjoying a complete and memorable experience. Both well-established and smaller wineries from the Republic of Moldova will be there, ready to present their limited edition novelties, the organisers said in a release, stressing that "the festival is not only an opportunity for tasting, but also a celebration of the close bond between the two countries and the shared passion for wine."
"The Moldovan Wine Festival is a story about tradition, passion and innovation. Every year, in Bucharest, we have the opportunity to share it directly with wine lovers and partners in Romania. This year, for the fifth edition, we are bringing an impressive number of producers and new experiences that reflect the diversity and excellence of Moldovan wine," said ONVV director Stefan Iamandi, as cited in the release.
The festival will feature wine tastings guided by sommeliers. The wines on display are internationally awarded, including with gold medals, and traditional Moldovan cuisine will be there to perfectly complement the flavor of the drinks.
Adding to the atmosphere will be live concerts, traditional dance performances and activities for children and families.
The Moldovan Wine Festival 2025 will take place September 13 - 14 on Kiseleff Blvd. Admission is free, and tickets for tasting events can be purchased in advance, online, through Live Tickets, and also on site.
ONVV is the No. 1 expert in the Moldovan wine sector, contributing to the regulation and the sectors' development, and acting as a platform for joint action by all the stakeholders in the industry, capitalizing on authenticity and consumer orientation and also focusing on promoting Moldovan wines through the program and the national wine brand "Wine of Moldova".
Moldovan wine is exported to over 70 countries around the world (90% of the total volume produced in the Republic of Moldova), having earned in the last 9 years over 8,000 medals, more than half of which are gold.
