Fire at military dormitory in Bucharest, one person dies

A fire broke out on Friday morning at the military dormitory of the Salaj Garrison, in one of the apartments on the fourth floor of the building, that resulted in the death of one person, informs the Ministry of national Defence (MApN).

In order to extinguish the fire, which was raging violently, the staff of the accommodation unit intervened initially and the intervention of ISU Bucharest-Ilfov was requested at the 112 single emergency number. The fire was extinguished around 11:10.

During the intervention a deceased man was discovered in the apartment, whose identity is yet to be established. A civilian employee of MApN was permanently housed in the apartment.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the tenants of the home were evacuated safely. Three of them showed symptoms of smoke poisoning and were transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital for medical care.

The case is being investigated under the coordination of the Military Prosecutor's Office, and the commander of the Bucharest Garrison Command has appointed a committee to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
